Looking down through the Chestnut Tree pool on the Dunkeld beat on the river tay. In bigger water this is a great cast with the spinner or evan with the fly when the river is 6ft up. The salmon often can be caught very close in. Especially when your standing at the fence from there down can be really good.

Spring Salmon Fishing On The River Tay

The spring salmon, One of the highest prized fish of the year.    In just a few weeks the salmon season on the river Tay starts again. It will be great to get back out on the river again searching for them in the early part of the season. The Dunkeld House Beat has some of the best holding water on the middle Tay, For those hardy early anglers this beat is well worth a look at . Just mind and check all your tackle, change the lines if you use nylon, check all your hooks on your flys or spinners. Just incase you connect with a fish of a life time you just never no !!

Casting a fly down through the Rock Pool on the Dunkeld beat just waiting for a few fish to come in to the pool.  When the rod stand is just about behind you your fly will be coming into the taking spot. Just remember to keep a close in wade no more than knee cap depth is all that is needed or you will move fish into the deeper water.

In search of a late spring salmon in the Gauge pool. Fishing the fly from the boat allows the angler to cover a lot more water, and salmon lies that couldn't be covered from the bank.

The Green Bank & Mouse Trap a great areas to work a spinner through in the deep water, There is always one or two big fish sitting in here.

Here is a cracking spring salmon caught in the Rock Pool on the Dunkeld Beat one of two fish in 30 minutes that day. This was in March, we seen quite a few fish that day going through the beat.

Well its Official as from next season i will be back on the Dunkeld Beat as Head Ghillie a lot of changes to come to the beat new boats March/April a new luxury fishing hut to be built on the top of the beat hopefully for the late spring/ summer. The top half of the beat to be some changes fly only areas, The bottom half will be the spinning and boating areas.
