Salmon Fishing On The Dunkeld House Beat
The spring salmon not long now till we are setting the rods for a cast for these prime fish. Roll on 15th January.
Spring Fishing Tackle.
If you are going to fish the Dunkeld House Beat this spring here are a few must haves for your box, If you are a fly fisher rods from 14 to 16 foot are ideal paired with a good fly reel with 200m of backing ( Just incase ) lines from floaters to sunk line mostly float to intermediate with a good range of sink tips 10 to 15 ft with maxima for leaders 18 to 20lb . Fly wise my favourite spring flys are Posh Tosh, Gold Bodied Willie Gunn , most importantly its what you have faith in fly wise, tied on tubes mostly from 1 inch to 2 inch tubes copper & aluminium cone head flys to for a bit of weight in the faster water.
Spinning.
Rods from 10 to 12ft are perfect 15 to 20lb mono, personally i like braid for the longer casts 20 to 30lb . Good quality swivels (BB swivels) Lure Wise you cant go wrong with the Toby Salmo in 30gram silver, copper Silver/Copper . some tobys in heavier weights 40 to 60 gram can be very use full on the bottom half of the beat. Vision 110 lure or similar but the visions do have the edge on this type of lure all rigged with just the one treble. What ever lures you prefer just make sure there is good quality treble hooks on them . All anglers should really carry knot less landing nets so the fish can be unhooked in the net in the water.
This season we will be keeping the top half of the beat fly only. Hut to top of Ivy Tree pool. The bottom half of the beat will be mostly the spinning areas on the beat
